Tacoma Country & Golf Club in Lakewood, Washington holds the distinction of being the oldest private golf club west of the Mississippi River, founded in 1894. The 18-hole course, originally laid out by John Ball Jr. and redesigned in 1923 by renowned Pacific Northwest architect Vernon Macan, plays to 6,935 yards against a backdrop of mature Douglas firs, American Lake, and the Olympic Mountains. The club has hosted two USGA championships and remains a foundational institution in the history of Pacific Northwest golf.
